GOVERNMENT SCRAPS 5 % IMPORT ON OPEN CELL TELEVISION PANEL

The government has scrapped 5% customs duty on import of open-cell (15.6 inches and above) TV panel used in the manufacturing of LCD and LED TVs. The decision will give thrust to domestic manufacturing and will also help in reduction of the price of TV panel by around 3%. The government also removed custom duty on import of CHIPS on FILM, Printed Circuit Board Assembly and Cell. The government had imposed a custom duty of 5% on import of such panel on June 30, 2017 then several Electronics makers including the Consumer Electronics, Television makers and Appliances Manufacturers Association were against it and had requested the government to waive it off as open-cell panel is an important part of TV manufacturing and covers more than half cost of the unit.

Saudi Arabia joined a US-led coalition for securing Mideast’s waterways after an attack targeting its crude oil industry. The decision to join the International Maritime Security constructs came ahead of the visit by US Secretary Mike Pompeo. Saudi officials individually planned to share all the information about the weapons that were used to attack a Saudi oil field and the world's largest crude oil processing plant. Yemen's Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have taken the responsibility of the attack, but the U.S. and Saudi Arabia say they suspect Iran carried out the assault.
